Thiksey Monastery: Gelug Buddhist Heritage of Ladakh

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor recently visited the historic Thiksey Monastery during his Ladakh visit, drawing attention to the region’s Buddhist heritage and cultural traditions. The monastery is located about 19 km east of Leh and is among the largest monastic complexes in central Ladakh.

Located on a hill in Thiksey, Ladakh, overlooking the Indus Valley.
Founded in 1433AD and associated with the Gelug (Yellow Hat) school of Tibetan Buddhism.
